Corner Brook at a Glance
Corner Brook is located on the western shores of Newfoundland,
at the mouth of the Bay of Islands. The city is situated an 8-hour drive from
St. John's and a 2.5 hour drive
from Port Aux
Basques, which is one of the main arrival and departure points for ferries
from Mainland Atlantic
Canada. The Long Range Mountains cut through the region, giving the area a
special combination of ocean and mountain scenery. The area was first surveyed
by renowned explorer Captain James Cook, and the Captain
James Cook Monument stands as testament to a proud chapter in his exploratory
career. Other historical attractions include the Corner
Brook Museum & Archive and the Railway
Society of Newfoundland Historic Train Site. However, Corner Brook offers
more than just historical attractions. Aside from the local shopping and restaurants
in the downtown core, Corner Brook is also known for its outdoor facilities, such
as Marble
Mountain Ski Resort.
